What is Kyu of Jo-Ha-Kyu? Jo-Ha-Kyu method was found by Noh dance master Zeami (1363- 1443). Jo is the bigining. Ha is breaking, changing. Kyu is the climax and ending. 1. Jo---hiding the sign There is also Jo-Ha-Kyu in each Jo, Ha, and Kyu. The essense of Jo of Jo is hiding the sign which is going to come out. You just feel the qualia without any moving. Qualia are the everything which life is feeling. Ha of Jo is to make it deeper secret by swaying body. You show swaying body between this world and another world. At every part of your body, different kind of qualia are going to come out and sway back. Then the moment of appearance of the first qualia is the Kyu f Jo. 2. Ha---Opening another dimension When you follow and amplify the first qualia until the muxmum, you will catch a sign from another dimension. Then you amplify the next qualia, you can open the different dimension from the first world which you created. This is the Ha. It breaks the first world. Invent your own timing in each Ha. This is the creation. 3. Kyu---several ways of Kyu 3-1 'Momiyose'-condense Kyu is the climax and ending. You should show everything with using rich variations of all kind of technique of movement. Then you can end after showing everything in a short condensed time. 3-2 Reach the world image= self image channel. From Jo to ha, you travel among single channel world,body feeling , movemenet, visual, audio, feeling, human relationship, to explore your whole self world. Then when finally you will find the world= self channel, this channel is the complex channel, it has whole qualia beyond all single channel. You can show whole qualia of your life sway at the world=self channel. 3-3 Transforming into another dimension of dead world. To transform dead is the alfa and omega of butoh. Die as a human body and it is possible to transform into another being of another dimension. You need to practice the technique of weakend body for a long time. Then you can watch this world as a dead. This living world is full of qualia, full of light, full of sound. But dead can not resonate with these qualia at all. You can give deep message to the audience that they can live as a creator with using these rich qualia. Audience always forget it. They feel boring of everyday's life. They lost the life. Your look as a dead can let them aware of the real life. 3-4 Ask to your life, "Can you repeat this dance ten thousands times?" If your life answer "Sure, I can repeat ten thousands times!", the movement must be your Kyu dance. This is the simplest question which you know is it Kyu or not. Dance it ten thousands times. It is your destiny. |
