Dance the Resonance!

Finally reached to this place that I can say straightly what is the Butoh of Life.

Life is resonance.
Life is resonating with all Qualia beyond the borders.
Life is resonating among persons, among objects, among invisible Behind Worlds.

It is so subtle, but when you stop dualistic thinking, you can catch it.

In the resonance, there is neither subject, nor object. It happen from both side similtaneously.

Through dancing the Resonance, we can take off our ego so easily.

Just be awaer them, and resonate as your detail dance or part movement.

Sometimes resonate with same resonance pattern, sometimes resonate with different resonance patterns.

Everything is resonance.
Do not worry, there is no mistake.
Life is resonating in non-dual and multi-dimensional resonance.
In the non-dual realm, there is neither right, nor wrong.

Dance all of them nonchalancely. Just enjoy it!

We can open novel beauty through it.

<Dreaming Share> meets "Sick Dancing Princess"

This week, we started co-reseach in "Sick Dancing Princess".
At first, we did Language reading that understand the meaning of the text, and proceed to Body reading that graspe it by bodily movement.
And this year we add one more step that we tried to remember the forgotten dismal memories by the new method of the year <Dreaming Share>.
We became subconsciuo mode by self-hypnosis technique and tried to remember the most strange, creepy, mysterious forgotten memory in each life.
Then, same Qualia as "Sick dancing Princess" came out from each dancers darkness of body one after another.

So, The investigation in "Sick Dancing Princess" and <Dreamong Share> were indipendently proceeded, but that day suddenly they became oneness.
The method of <Dreaming Share> was the very same way of Hijikata's writing of "Sick Dancing Princess".

Hijikata lived in a room by alone and meditated by his secret way and one day he called his wife Akiko Motofuji and a few students to write down his speaking of the proto-text of "Sick Dancing Princess". The proto-text was so chaotic, because he spoke just following his inner Qualia stream. It didn't follow the gramar of Japanese, without clear subject and object.
Then he asked a famous poet Takano Kikuo who loves Hijikata's Butoh to arrange the proto-text by minimum correction. Then the final text was born. He did auther review and corrected it two times. One is when he post it to the theater magazine in each month of 1977. And last change when he published it as a book (1983).
Then the final book text that we can read now was born.

Now we got the same method that Hijikata spoke the proto-text. Each subbody also spoke just Qualia language without gramer and logic.
But, we share the almost same Qualia in the darkness body and subconscius body has full of resonativity beyond the self and others. In the <Dreaming Share>, subbody become cobody, cobody become subbody in non-dual and multi-resonance Abyss.

This year we will co-create each piece with deepening this method toward the 15th Himalaya Butoh Festival.
It must full of novel experiments and creations to dance the unexplore butoh of "Sick Dancing Princess".

Toward The Non-Dual, beyond all Dualistic Illusions

Hijikata wrote, "We have to sink down into the non-dual realm beyond the differentiation of self and others. Butoh is the task to open new meeting of human."

Zeami investigated in deep beauty, " (Feel)ー心 (Heart = (Kan, Life Resonance)

Zeami who was a founder of Japanese Noh dance, had investigated in what is the Beauty of Noh dance.

In his "Kadensho (What is Flower)" written in his age 40's, he defined it by three elements: Flower, Interesting, and Rarity.

But, in the later years, he said that in the previous difinition, it was still bound by the work of human heart, when we recognize it as "Oh, flower blooms!   Interesting! or Rare!".

But, There are moments that we are unexpectedly moved by something spontaneously without the work of heart such as "Flower!", "Interesting!" or "Rare!".

"What is it that Life is moved without the work of the heart? "

Normaly we use the word "( Kan)" to express to feel. But, it is work of human heart, he had to invent a new word (Kan) to express it, He delete a Heart (心)form the character of that means to feel.

He had to invent a new word <>.

It is just Life Resonance that is transmitted from Life to Life beyond the function of the human heart.

He had met the secret of the Beauty It is Life Resonance itself.

(Feel)ー心 (Heart = (Kan, Life Resonance)


Philosopher Nietzsche also sunk into the Non-Dual realm beyond Good and Evil. He knew well that those dualistic judgements were just human illusion that christianity and nation-state built.

"When you gaze long into an abyss the abyss also gazes into you."
Today is the 173rd anniversary of the birth of Friedrich Nietzsche.
Before people noticed the Life Resonance, they grasped it in such a way as to look and to be looled like this. This awareness was the first step to notice the Life Resonance.
In rephrasing this by our words right now,
"Life is resonating with the invisible Abyss in non-dual and multi-dimensional realm".

Now we are going to the Non-Dual realm to dance the unexplored Butoh world that Hijilata wrote as "Sick Dancing Princess".

After twenty years struggle with it, slowly we get how to dance it.

How to Open the Future
- 50 years with the dead friend, Yamazaki


My friend Hiroaki Yamazaki died today 50 years ago, in the Anti-Vietnam War movement, on October 8, 1967.
Every October 8, I have danced with Yamazaki by J.S.Bach, Cello Suite No. 2, BWV 1008. That dance changed into a number of varietions, and became the the lists on bottom.
Today, on 50 years Anniversary day of him, I looked back on my whole life.

Eyes from the Future

Butoh lives in the country of the dead, and sees this real world from the other world.
"Things that disappear only from the point of rotting, opening really life is rather similar to becoming a dead man" (Hijikata Tatsumi)
Zeami always keeps watching himself from a distance eyes. It is called as
"Distant eyes".
Hijikata called this
"Nest of forests, nest of eyes"
In addition to these, I have seen myself with
"Eyes from the Future".
We look at the present from the future which the present problems were solved. Then we can see what problems are left unresolved at this time and what signs of resolution are born.

I learned this "Eyes from the future" from a thinker Yutaka Haniya. Koya. Haniya is the man who called "Embryo meditation" in Hijikata Butoh. No, not only Haniya, but many Japanese thinkers and activists of the 1960s shared this eyes.
The poet Gan Tanigawa muttered.
"Oh, that's just the Nation-State of the Future"
Takaaki Yoshimoto also kept this eyes constantly. Finally, in the
"African stage of mind", he arrived at the animistic primitive mindset of humankind which is resonating in non-dual and multidimensionally transforming. The african stage mind is sleeping in the abyss of all our mental phenomena, and restoring exchange with it is a hope leading to the future. he thought so.
Tatsumi Hijikata who lived in that period also shared it in his bodily experiences of Butoh.
"Humans still do not know even one millionth of the mythical order, historical order, and the coming unknown order in the Future."
"Let's go down to the place of relationship of encounter of non-differentiated state of self and others."
"Butoh is the task of getting down to the root of that relationship."


"non-differentiated state of self and others" is equivalent to the world of resonance qualia resonating in the non-dual and multidimensionally transforming and flowing of "African stage of mind" reached by Yoshimoto.


Sprouts of Rhizome

I have always asked the question to Life.
"What do you want to do most?"
"In what kind of world do you want to live?"

Life responds, not by words, but through faint indications and dreams.
"I want to live in an unexpectedly interesting world.
In a world where all Life can be played as much as they wish. "
"Rhizome is good without hierarchical force of Tree."


This world is full of too many constraints to suppress Life.
My philosophical teacher Gilles Deleuze grasped our human history as a struggle between hierarchical
Tree and coming Rhizome.
Rhizome is the embryonic form of the future society discovered by philosopher Gelles Deleuze. Every Life is not bound by anything, it freely connects across all boundaries and freely separates. There is no center and there is no hierarchical relation.

Indeed, the Tree exists only in this human world. it is a long illusion of human.
All the worlds other than human society are Rhizome.
There is neither the center nor the upper and lower in the macro Universe. The Universe is Rhizome.
The micro cosmos of the String Resonance that is grapsed by the novel String theory is also perfect Rhizome.
According to the String theory, everything that exists in the Universe is caused by a change in the resonance pattern of a vibrating String in a very small size of eleven dimensions.
All vibrating strings are free to connect with other strings, 2 becomes 1, and immediately it is separated into 3. Because it is constantly transforming and flowing, String have not countable number. Deleuze probably did not know the String theory, but the micro world of String Resonance is exactly the Rhizome itself.
And also Qualia that resonates inbetween Life and world are consisted by the String infinitely changing and resonating.

The nation, politics, religion, law, economy, morality, information management system, value judgment that mankind has produced in the past several thousand years are all captured in this dualistic Tree illusion.
I see our presence from the Future where these Nations and other Trees will die.

Resolving every moment

Subbody Resonance Butoh has been exploring in Himalaya for the past 20 years. We investigated in how is it possible to realize such the Future of Rhizome.
In the process of the past twenty years, we found the practical methods of
"Resonant Rhizome" and "Dreaming Share" that transform and flow beyond boundaries between self and other, inside and outside, me and the world and so on. They are the practical way to enter the non-dual and multi-dimensional Resonance world.

And at the moment instantly co-creating the dance, when a tendency of Tree that destroy the free rezonance of Rhizome of Life like a mad King or General come out, we immediately catch it and try to vanish it at each moment by the "De-self conditioning", we try to find the sprout way of the Rhizome possibility, and it has been supported and amplified.
We call this series of task as
<Rhizoming> (to become Rhizome).

In the limited worlds such as Butoh co-creation, there are people who hold the existing authorities such as choreographers and directors. Sometimes our Egos are influenced by the old way, and the leadership that force others and control others. Sometimes one of us is trapped by the tendency like politicians or generals who kill all others that are contrary to themselves.
Since we always try to be Transparent that listen to inside 50% and 50% outside, we continue to be Transparent in dancing that is not caught and foeced by anything, so we noticed it at the moment when those tendencies came out and immediately calm down it.
And, instead of way of Tree like general, we find another method of Rhizome.
We erased the Tree that is born every moment, and trying to become Rhizome.
It is a pleasant path for Life, because it is a way to follow the essense of Life.
In Rhizome, we can open infinite creativity, originality and resonativity (resonance ability) of Life, inherent world transformations are born one after another, and continue to co-create through Life Resonance.

Toward the out of Himalaya

We have been honing creation in the Subbody Resonance Butoh Himalaya that has kept safe distance from the daily world for 20 years, now we are going out of Himalaya to realize the Life Resonance with local comunity and society in various places.
In the real relationship with societies, we will try to diffuse the way of Life Resonance Rhizome to the world.
Already, we have continued experiments to explore the possibility of Life Resonance in the numbers of Europe tours and India tours.
It is about to be reborn as a co-creative tour of a new Life Resonant Art beyond the genre of activities.

Issues of new Life Resonance

There are still a lot of unresolved issues to go.
How can we realize the vivid Life Resonance among local people and the unknown, seemingly grotesque dances like Butoh. There are limitless issues for invention.
Sometimes the voice and song experiments that involves a butoh dance like "Utai" of the traditional Japanese Noh dance, and involves audience into different dimensions which Butoh opens from the depths of Life.
Sometimes a funny drama such as "Kyogen" may also be usefull.
By resonating with local musicians, artists, installations etc. In each region, we will expand the network of Rhizome of Life Resonance to India and the world.

<De-politics>,<De-Tree> at every moment

Everywhere, in every situation, <de-politicalism> and <de-self> are to be carried out.
In the dance, collaboration and the process of making it, we will realize <de-centered>, <de- hierarchy> at the moment when a center or a general and hierarchical relationships are about to be born, we will convert it to Rhizome.
In this way, we will show and share the way of <Rhizoming> that we can get out of the hierarchical order and politics that we are trapped and felt to escape impossible.
That is the second stage of worldwide Rhizoming tour.
We will materialize experiments of Rhizoming that we have been exploring for over 20 years in Himalaya within the contact point with the community.
This is a certain way to change the world slowly through the only subtle Life Resonance without Politics.

Now every political activity that uses information propagation and violence has been totally invalidated and stopped breathtaking by the mighty information management system completed in the last half century.
However, rather than politics, pure life resonance can pass through the eyes of any information system management network and expand that circle.
This seemingly to be the most roundabout, it is the way to change that real world certainly.
For the graduates of the resonance cram school, more than 1,000 people have spread from Himalaya to the rest of the world over the past two decades, and the pipples of unique Life Resonance is expanding in each place.
Eventually it will be handed down to the 2nd generation, 3rd generation.
The future is in Life Resonance.

"What is Butoh?"
---A narrow definition to be poor, and deep definition to enrich

Students ask me often, "What is Butoh?"

I reply, "There are two kinds of definition. One is a narrow definition to be poor, another is deep definition to enrich.

Narrow definition limits the butoh, another definition is to open butoh into infinite potentiality of creativity of Life.

Before, also I was bound by the narrow definition as "Butoh is the corpse(=dead body) that tries to stand desperately."

Also I have tried as the following ten years before;

 

"What is butoh?

I have found three essential components of Hijikata's Butoh:

1.  To abandon all conditions as a human, and to transform into a "Suijakutai (Weakened body or Collapsed body)" which resonates with spirits of the dead, insane, handicapped, and collapsed.

2.  To enter dimensions other than that of the human world, and to become a survivor of another world.

3.  To look at the living world as a dead spirit from another world. (We call this the "Near life" body, which has the opposite position as that of "Near Death."(The Butoh 1st chapter)

You can see the struggle in the article of "The Butoh 1st chapter".

 

These might be true for a specific period of butoh, but narrow truth that binds butoh in the limited activity that Hijikata and Ohno tried in a specific time. If you research the history of butoh, you can notice that it was infinite experiments to try diverse possibilities of beauty.

From the resistance against modern dance and ballet, Avant-garde, the rebellion against the values of the modern society(1960'),

As the peak of it, the agressive butoh in the "Revolt of body" (1968),

Invention of the weakened body (1970'),

Infinite investigation in the unexplored 'Butoh of Life' in the "Sick Dancing Princess"( 1976-86).

 

When we research the whole life of them, we can find that butoh is the continuation of infinite quest of novel beauty. So, in one word he just tried to create novel beauty in what people does not regard as the beauty.This is the deeper definition of butoh. It can open butoh into bottomless creativity of Life. It makes butoh richer and deeper by opening unknown possibility of Life.

 

When I was young, was bound by only the narrow definitions of weakened butoh and denied the other styles of butoh. Young Lee had to be an arrogant boy that thought to know well about Life and Universe, but in fact it is just an illusion of Ego. We don't know about the infinite Abyss of Life and Universe at all. Ego has to learn the humility to the Life. It takes time. It need long long journey into the Abyss of Life to get the humility and notice the necessity to take off the Ego.

 

So, now we can follow the richer and deeper definition of butoh as the following;

 

Butoh is an infinite activity to invent a novel beauty in what nobody notices as the beauty.

 

It is to bring us an infinite freedom, a bottomless freedom with vague fears, isn't it?

Become Transparent Life

Become Transparent

Foucault who declared the death of human beings, refused to be treated as a "human" with the character of some kind of personality.
In the darkness of the body, there are countless tendencies, not just the surface personality facing society and others
He was writing as a rhizome of these multiple tendencies with cooperating by mixing and separating.
Many questioners who misunderstood themselves as "human beings", projected their illusion of himan to him. He could not endure that they tried to label Foucault as "someone in man" as themselves.
Foucault took off all human conditions, and tried to become something not human, to become "what is after human beings".
There is no word to name it yet.
It is not proper to name it such as "superhuman" like Nietzsche.
Foucault died without his name. Foucault's allies Gilles Deleuze discovered the idea of ​​"Rhizome".
It refers to the way of being generated and changing into the "future human beings after humans" by taking off the conditions of various modern "human" conditions.
Because I am their disciple, I live on the way to it, I inherited the name "Rhizome".

Subbody and cobody that come out from the darkness of body are not single, but something can not be counted.
It constantly resonantes, transforms, separates freely and connects to other subbodies flexibilly to become cobody.
There is no fixed face and no home, neither the center nor the frontier.
Indeed, subbody = cobody is a Rhizome.
In Foucault, as several people wrote to erase their faces, we dance as well to become transparent Life as numerous subbodies=cobodies come in and out.

Take off the 'Human' and become transparent Life which resonate with everything, not being bound by both of inside and outside. Life accept everything and after long waiting, invent a necessary creation to survive by 'Reverse Twist'.

Reverse Twist

All creation is the 'Reverse Twist'. Face the all twisted (=pressed, invaded) Qualia in your Life from the world, and find the timing of 'the Reverse Twist' to change it to an unavoidable creation.
It is the way of Life for us, and Butoh of Life.

Share the necessary creation for Life

Primordial Life could not resonate well with oxygion gas at all, because it was so strong poison, Life had to keep safe distance with oxygen for a billion years. And proteo bacteria invented the way of resonance with oxygen as cell breathing. We share the invention in the cell as a Mitochondria, then we can breath in the air now.
Though our Subbody Resonance Butoh creations are so small than the invention of the 'Oxygen breathing', if it is necessary invention for surviving, it is worth to share with all Life.
This is the reason to perform our Butoh. To share our own best with Life, it is the performance of Butoh of Life.

Become Transparent

To become transparent, means to be released from all twisted Qualia both of inner restriction and outer restriction. We need to release from Ego, Self, various personalities which is twisted, warped, limited in the life history, sexualities, nationalities, archetype and prototype which is hidden in the darkness of body and from the society, nation-state, and all boundaries in the world. 

"More than two persons writes in order to have no face"

In the short word of 'face' Foucault implied so many elements as the above. So, no face means the same as Transparency. Also for us, more than ten subbodies and cobodies create butoh in order to be transparent. We need to continue infinite subbody butoh creation by the 'reverse twist', so that to overcome so many restrictions in the darkness of body.
Our life is long travel toward 'the Transparent Life'.


Why Transparent?


Despite that I have tried to be transparent for long years, still I was bound by so many opaque Qualia in the darkness of body every moment. It is not so easy to be transparent, and the opaque tendencies always possess me and dominate me by unknown force. I feel that I was always twisted by them in each moment. That's why to be released from them is necessary for me to survive and become Transparent Life.

Missing guys in me

In the darkness of my body, many debrises lost are living. They come out occasionally, and surprise me.
I began to search for the those missing guys and tried to dance them at the 14th Butoh Festival.
I was hiding myself behind the students' last performances.
I explored while went back and came up between the 'Behind world' and this world.
However, in truth, I did not understand at all, what I was doing myself.
Somehow, there is no choice, but to do so for the last few years, I just followed the impulse of my subbody.

For some reasons I have completely lost the will to dance in the center of the stage for the last few years.
I just tried to dance behind the students, between the legs, below and above the body etc.
I've been searching for an unusual places.
There was a faint feeling that it may lead to discovering a new dancing places.

Two months after that, during the summer Eurasia Resonant Butoh tour, I have experienced encountering among myself when I was a child who was forgotten, one after another.

In the first encounter happened while following Dara's instruction who guided the wheelchair workshop in Hungary.
While I was carrying my secret Qualia of water, Suddenly I met a scene when I was 3 years old, the Jane typhoon attacked my place Wakayama.
My grandfather who was holding the glass door of the entrance with tatami from the inside, a wood plate blowing up with strong wind, hit my grandfather's head.
My young father carried the grandfather to a hospital in the typhoon while whole body became full blood.
In the final performance of the Wheelchair Butoh entitled "Beyond the Boundary", I danced my father carrying a bloody grandfather.

The second encounter with the missing person is happened in the Budapest Butoh workshop.
Eva who is the participant from fifteen years ago, performed her childhood memory in the <Dreaming Share> practice.
When she danced against her father who wielded violence against her mother or herself in the childhood, I was moved deely. Unexpectedly a forgotten memory came back, because I experienced a similar experience when I was 9 year old.
My parents were struggling, and my mother attacked father, father kiched her strongly. My mother's body flied in front of me, and fallen from the edge side, I had no power to save her at all.
I had no choice but to look at it, and my sadness transformed like a stone in my mind.
The stone of the sorrow was still exists in my chest, and untouchable because it is so fresh.
I realized that I could not still dance the stone of that sorrow.

The third encounter is the Ozora festival in Hungary.
It happened while I was listening to a concert of two Japanese persons called Ma Om.
It was a beautiful ambient music.
The moment I first heard their sound, the impulse was that I do not want to listen to it.
I tried to get away from the place, but I endured to listen to it.
While being patient, I listened to my Life with self-hypnosis, "Why did such an impulse come up against this music?".
Then, I met a boy who was at the age of 10, I went to the beach of Kainan, Wakayama as everyday, I have continued watching the sea when the setting sun went down.
The music which was performed by Kigongi and electronic guitar, repeated as the ocean wave while slightly changing the sounds.
I was led by the music of the sea wave and I met myself 10 years old boy watching the sea.
But, for some reason, that boy was forgotten for a long time.
I continued listening to the darkness of the body further, why had I forgotten the ten years old boy.
Then, at the age of 12, my family would like to escape from Kainan city to Osaka at night.
At the same time, the beach of Kainan was landfilled for construction of a petrochemical complex.
I was clambing and swimming in that beach every year since I was a child.
I felt sad that I can not bear with having my favorite beach disappear.
After that, I have never visited again to that city.
And the 10 years old watching the sea, he was erased from my memory as if he had committed suicide.

It was two days after I met my fourth boy who had forgotten.
On the last eve of the final show at the Ozora Festival,
I listened to my Life the reason why the 10 years old boy was watching the sea every evening.
Suddenly, a memory that my parents talked to sell me to his elder brother, and I was shocked to hear it at the next room in the middle of the night, revived me.
"In fact, my elder brother is saying that he would like to get Ryuji" my father is talking.
My father was the second in the ten brothers and sisters, worked in a clothes store operated by his elder brother.
"My elder brother adopts Ryuji and let him graduate a medical university and make him a doctor.
Will you persuade Ryuji tomorrow?" My father was asking my mother.
(No way, my mother would not be able to cooperate with such a thing)
I guessed so and fell asleep.
But the next morning my mom smiled while talking about breakfast and started talking gently.
"Ryuji, you have a good story, are you going to be adopt of your uncle?
You will be able to enter a medical university and will be a doctor.
How about going? "
(Both of my parents are trying to sell me!
My mother was a fake mother!)
I shocked and shouted that I hated it loudly.
I cried with enough momentum to turn over the table.
The memory that I cried in my life was the last one.
After that I closed my heart to everyone, and became the boy who was watching the sea alone.

I was encountering one after another with my boy who had been forgotten during the Summer.
After dancing "Whereabouts of Missing guys", the subbody in me has continued to search them
throughout the days and nights.

(No way, my mother would not be able to cooperate with such a thing)
I guessed so and fell asleep.
But the next morning my mom smiled while talking about breakfast and started talking gently.
"Ryuji, you have a good story, are you going to be adopt of your uncle?
You will be able to enter a medical university and will be a doctor.
How about going? "
(Both of my parents are trying to sell me!)
I shocked and shouted that I hated it loudly.
I cried with enough momentum to turn over the table.
The memory that I cried in my life was the last one.
After that I closed my heart to everyone, and became the boy who was watching the sea alone.

I was encountering one after another with my boy who had been forgotten.
After dancing "Whereabouts of Missing guys", the subbody in me has continued to explore them
throughout the days and nights.

From now on, I will recall all my dissociated pieces, and dance them to be integrated into one Life.
Due to their trauma experiences, they were torn apart and dissociated for long years. I need to become whole self again to be Life as a whole.

Ramesh, forever!

A week after I heard the death of Ramesh, I danced Ramesh at the Forest Park in Rotterdam. A lot of memories overflowed over 20 years spent with Ramesh. Among them, especially, in the desert of Rajasthan, the bodily sensation of Ramesh at the moment when sudden cerebral hemorrhage occurred came to my body.
How many times have I danced the dead?
Swarn friends, Yamazaki, Tsuji, Hashimoto, the dead of the Pacific War, the deceased of Auschwitz, a strange death on the streets of Delhi, the dead of Fukushima 3.11 ....
Through dancing the dead and I become one.
The darkness of my body is full of the dead. It's as if their playground.
Little by little, it gradually approaches the country of the dead.

& 癇 -Two KAN

 

(Kan) of Zamami and (Kan) of Tatsumi Hijikata

Both are rarely used words, but it is an essential concept that forms the basis of Beauty for two persons.

 

(Kan) of Zeami

 

Zeami who was a founder of Japanese Noh dance, had investigated in what is the Beauty of Noh dance.

In his "Kadensho (What is Flower)" written in his age 40's, he defined it by three elements: Flower, Interesting, and Rarity.

But, in the later years, he said that in the previous difinition, it was still bound by the work of human heart, when we recognize it as "Oh, flower blooms!   Interesting! or Rare!".

But, There are moments that we are unexpectedly moved by something spontaneously without the work of heart such as "Flower!", "Interesting!" or "Rare!".

"What is it that Life is moved without the work of the heart? "

 

Normaly we use the word "( Kan)" to express to feel. But, it is work of human heart, he had to invent a new word (Kan) to express it, He delete a Heart (心)form the character of that means to feel.

 

He had to invent a new word <>.

It is just Life Resonance that is transmitted from Life to Life beyond the function of the human heart.

He had met the secret of the Beauty It is Life Resonance itself.

 

(Feel)ー心 (Heart = (Kan, Life Resonance)

 

 

Based on this (Kan=Life Resonance) beyond the work of the mind, he established "the dual illusious Noh dance to go and come between this world and the other world in his late age.

Tha (Kan) is directly transmitted from Life to Life without word, and without mind.

He finally found that the essence of beauty is the Life Resonance itself.

 

Tatsumi Hijikata's <癇の花 Flower of Kan>

 

On the other hand, Tatsumi Hijikata pursued novel beauty, after undergoing various experiments of dark butoh at the young age.

He who worked on the creation of "Weakened body butoh" that reduced all dynamic movements from his dance. And finally reached to the ultimate beauty called <癇の花 Flower of Kan>.

Flower of Kan is a novel, very sensitive beauty swaying between this living world and the dead world. Life becomes weakened by accumulation of various Life Resonances; attacked, invaded, forced, eaten and so on between Life and the world.

Sometimes the mentally or physically disabled Life shows a special beauty momentary that is not able to resonate well with the world.

Tatsumi Hijikata called it as <Flower of Kan (癇の花)>

"The eyes of rocky cicadas"

Some concrete image to explain the flowers of Kan shows what id Kan?

"Butoh is not an expression, not expressing raw emotions and feelings as they are.

We swallow it once.

Then chew and wait the ferment until it is brought up to a beautiful wine.

Wait and wait and grance by the eyes of rocky cicadas that sunk down into the rock.

That is the Butoh of Life. "

 

In "Hoso-tan" (1972), he performed the near death Life which was eaten up by pimples, with a dragging crawling movement.

In the solo of "Girls" in "Summer Storm" (1973), "Quiet House" (1974), Tatsumi Hijikata could dance together with his dead sister who could not dance for many years.

Among them, crawling on the ground,

Hijikata danced <Flower of Kan> by a subtle last moment of Life.

 

Beauty of Transparent Life Resonance

 

Zeami's < Kan> and Hijikata Tatsumi's <癇の花Flower of Kan>, both of them are swaying beauty of Life that fluctuates between life and death.

They discovered the ultimate beauty as Life Resonance transmitted from the Life to the Life.

 

How can we create the novel beauty of Life Resonance in this contemporary world?

What to do is just question the Life.

Ask you Life, "What do you want most?

What difficulties do you encounter?

What are you asking for?"

The answer will be reply by the subtle tremor or fluctuation of Life at some part of your body.

Listen to life and move according to the subtle Qualia, and listen to Life again.

Move,

and listen.

 

In this simple listening repetition, the seed of a fine Life Resonance technique to come is germinating.

My teacher, Ramesh forever!

Ramesh, who was the greatest teacher of Llife Resonance for me, was gone yestersay.
Age 48 years old, by a cerebral hemorrhage.
In the first Indian tour three years ago, since becoming hemiplegic by cerebral hemorrhage, although he has a strong vitality who has overcame the crisis many times, truly Ramesh has finally exhausted.
Since the construction of the Subbody Resonance Cram School, Ramesh has supported me as a teacher of the Resonativity and as my right arm for 15 years.
Ramesh could see the attitude of a person and immediately understood what he wanted and instantaneously extended his hand to support. I have been saved so many times.
It is because I touched upon the beauty of his rich Resonativity that I started thinking that <Life Resonance> is the most important thing in Life.
Even though Ramesh died, Life Resonance Art will live forever.
He will continue to be my teacher.
Ramesh, thank you for a long time.

The Subtle listening technique which is trying to share on this summer tour is to learn from the handicapped people.

Every time the handicapped people move one body hardly, they listen to the body,

grasp what changes happened and focus on the next stroke.

It is the very essential technique to learn from them.

 

Our Life is always resonates with the inner cosmos and outer cosmos through subtle Life Resonance Qualia.

Slowly move a part of your body, and listen to what Qualia changes on your body . And resonate with next Life Resonance Qualia.

This is the Rhizome of Life

We are bound by human illusion that human is most greatest being, strong is good, weak is bad, health is beautiful, disable is ugry, and so on. Those illusionss are bound by dualistic Tree system that has a hierarchy, top and bottom, center and fringe, king and slavers.
It is just illusion that we are trapped in the order of modern society and Nation-State.
When we take off those human illusion, and become Life, those illusions disappear.
We can listen to subtle Life Resonance of cell's Life without any boundaries.

This piece; "Carnival of Kan(Disability)" was performed at the final day of 14th International Butoh Festival Himalaya.

All dancers listened to inner disability and danced it with opening full resonativity on the earth as Life.
We listened to subtle cell's Life Resonance.
There are no hierarchical illusion in Life.
It is pure Rhizome of Life Resonance.
Rhizome has no top, no center, no hierarchy.
Rhziome can connect freely and separate flexibly. it is a sprout form of future.
It is pure state of Universe without human illusion. We beleive that the world must recover the full of Life Resonance.

Gorka arranged my voice and merged with sound, we have continued this experiment for three years, and now it grow up to a new Butoh style that has word voice and music like"Yokyoku" in Japanese traditional performance "Noh". We will continue to deepen this experiment.

By losing what, do Qualia become information?


The difference between Qualia and Information

The relationship between Qualia and Information has been a mystery that can not be solved well for long time. But, it began to be solved out little by little. When Qualia are converted to information, what do they lose? When this question came up, a transparent brightness was seen at the first time. By losing what, do Qualia become information? It's Life Resonance! Qualia are generated as long as Life resonates with something. When Qualia are converted to information, they leave from the field of Life Resonance which Qualia are generated. They are converted to things that are information. Information of the image, of the sound and of the language, they can be translated into binary machine language consisting of 0 and 1. At that time, by losing the Life Resonance, Qualia are converted into Information. Only Life can resonate with Qualia. Machine never resonates with Qualia. Machine can treat only things as the information. From here, it is possible to go confront the deep mystery between Qualia and Information. I was able to find with difficulty such a point finally. Although I can not drink liquor anymore, Let the imaginary glass empty tonight. I could come to this place by researching "Sick Dancing Princess" of Tatsumi Hijikata which is full of Life Resonance. Not by any information, but by Qualia and Life Resonance, the Butoh of Life will be created.

What is Hijikata doing while dancing "A Girl" solo?

Discovery of Subtle Rhizoming

This week we deepened the experiment of Kanchen, Slow Kanchen, and Subtle Rhizoming in Kanchen.

1) Kanchen: Pass various Qualia at various part of body; vibration, sway, wave, shoch, collapse and dying Qualia at random.

2) Slow Kanchen: Slow down the kanchen, and pass through a specific Qualia at a moment only at a part of body, and listen to Life what is happening?

3) Subtle Rhizoming :
Listen to the subtle tendencies that a specific Qualia infect from a part to neibougher part of body and develope to a sequence of the tendency.


When we reached to the third stage of this experiment, I big awareness has come out.
I investigated in Hijikata's dancing in the solo of "A Girl" for a long years.
Finnaly, I noticed that this is what Hijikata was doing during the dancing "A Girl". Each moment of a small sequence or movement, he listened to the Life Resonance that was happening between the physical movement and inner Qualia symbolized as the "Can factory".
After all, he could integrate all of the subtle Life Resonance as the Butoh Score of "Quiet House".

        And the girl becomes the horse face and stops there.

        Also, another girl stands up and becomes a doll through a dragon fly.

        The dizziness, shivering and swaying shadow of flower are hidden in the freedom to carry the density at will.

The love affair of hands (*16) and the copy inside the skull are connected through discontinuity. A mescaline injection is given at a fingertip. Small flowers and small faces are born there.

Knitting with very fine thread, infinite mesh of stitches (*17), a fire-breathing bird and a funny bear follow Mad King while swaying (*18). In the middle of it, the head is chasing another whereabouts.

All matieres (qualia of material or sense of material) are supported by the behind world. The compound eyes (*19) and multi-layering are muddled and become unified.

The body is a dancing place. A dancing place of the hand, a dancing place of the hip, a dancing place of behind the elbow, and so on.

The depth of this dancing place is formed by overcoming the deep memories (and qualias) that were caught in each dancing place and reverse twisting them.

Accept others' issue as one's own issue


This year, we are trying <Mutual Midwife>, and it has already been tackled in Tao Sanga, my Shiatsu master, Mr. Endo Ryokyu was trying to create.
He tried it many times and failed and trying again. Through the experiments, what is the most important thing came to be clear.
It is to co-create <community that care for others>.

"Endo: What I wanted to create was a place for the training community to care for others." Such a place would not be born without the mind and action that at least each member of that group care each other.

-- I agree.

Endo: In caring for others,

1) Accept other's issues as one's own issues, not ignore it as not my issue.

2) Asking the others with positive concern.

3) Imagine the feelings of the other person and listen to the story while sympathizing.

Three are the basis. "

That's exactly right.
However, in order to realize this, we must overcome many edge Qualia.
This year's Subbody Resonance Butoh faces the problem of overcoming this.

Mutual Midwife

Either you can open all the above points, listen to yourself and others equally. Then, do not regard the problem of the partner as a stranger, accept it as your own issues, invent and share a conditioning that solves it.

Transparent Distant Eye

While accepting and those issues gradually, through <semi-passive / semi-active>, <half inside, half outside>, <50% following, 50% inventing>, <50% subconscious, 50% transparencious>, it increases transparency.

Transparent Distant Eyes

See yourself by Transparent Distant eyes, and check the follows;

1.No Duplication

Do not do Duplication of movement unconsciously.
See yourself at each moment from Distant eyes and if you find it, break it, and invent.

2. Break your habits

Do not allow your habitual arm position, leg position as usual, and invent novel poition that you have never done at each moment.

3. Remember forgotten Qualia

Listen to your Hidden skins, Hidden joints, Hidden fluid and resonate with your Qualia cloud arond your body.
Those Qualia moves your each detail, part and whole body.

4. Subtle control technique

Pass through different Qualia at dandom, at different part of your body, in diferent direction, with different rhythm.
Remember the
<Slow Kanchen>, <Silent speed>, <Listen to subtle Life Resonance>, <Carry density> and <Jumping wild>.

5. Mutual Midwife

Either opening all the above points, listen to yourself and others equally. Then, do not regard the issue of the others as a stranger, accept it as your own issue, invent and share the best conditioning that solves it.
What we are trying to co-create is a community of the future that we can care for each other.

6. Become Transparent

Dance your all Invisible CHAINED


This is precious gift to all of us.
He danced with the real chains transparently.
It's so pure and straight.
This chain is a symbol of all CHAINED in the world.
It lets us be aware of that we are bound by various Invisible Chaind Qualia.

We are bound by so many kind of invisible Chained.
We need to dance all of them to relaese from them.
Now we are bound by huge Information through the Internet.
Internet infromation is controlled by people who want to dominate and cotrol this world.
We are bound by not only outside, but inside, too.
We are bound by own ego, self, identity and those are bound by own histroy.
Also ego, self, identity is bound by the Nation-State, religion, law, taboo and all of common illusions.
We are bound by inner unknown tendencies, lust, impulse, desire, wish, nightmare, habit, addiction and so on.
Those are connected with many Archetype and Prototype that live in the deeper realm of darkness of body.
We need to be transparent from all of them.
We need to initialize all of them to become Transparent Life. That's why we need to dance those Qualia to release from them.

Yesterday, I guided people to find ten Qualia which some part of body-mind are bound, and neccesary to solve.
My first solo "Infectious Fever" was to try to dance ten issue that I was bound. After hundred times performance of the piece, gradually those binds disappeared, though I have to meet new deeper problems to release from.
The travel in the darkness of body is infinite process to face various issue to shift them to creation and release, and research deeper realm to become
Transparent Life.

Anyway, this video moved me deeply to remember the most important thing to dance.

Slow Kanchen

Yesterday, Iguided the kanchen movement that let various kinds of vibration pass through the various part of body.
At first everybody seemed to enjoy that novel experience, but after 30 munites, everybody became tired and fell in sleep. Maybe, the rhythem was too fast.
I noticed that fast Kanchen movement has some poison that lead us into deep subconscious mode and to sleep.
Because it is similar as the comfortable vibration in the train that lead us to sleep.
Then today, I experiment of
Slow Kanchen that with very slow speed, let various very subtle Qualia pass through various small parts of body at random as the Jonathan's body in the above video.
It is calm and we can taste what happens after each Qualia passing throuh body transparently.
I felt that it is the best practice that we can become
half subconscious and half transparencious mode compared to the other movement. We can continue to listen to the body transparently in each moment for long time.
We will continue to investigate in this new tonnel of the body further.

Shu-Ha-Ri

Sen-Rikyu who was the founder of Sado (Tea ceremony)
had an unique traning principle;
Shu-ha-Ri.

Shu is to accept the form until your body has changed by the traning.
Ha is to break the form after the long training. Invent unique novel form.
Ri is to leave from the form until your natural behavior become a form.

When you accept a form of movement, there is a moment when your body have changed by accepting a form.
The video above is to chatch the moment when Jonathan's body has changed in the Chatle Rock garden. The change is just subtle begining, but it occured surely.
During May, we will study some special butoh forms;

Take off all of the modern habit of your ego and self.
It is too much educated and trained as the modern individualism or meism.
Those must disturb the Shu-Ha-Ri process to learn butoh that has completely different principle from modern western culture.

Dancing the Disappearance

I was bound by the Disappearance.
First disappearance was when I was 3 years old, my mother disappeared.
My father let a geisha girl pregnant, and had to pay a big panishment money, parent sold the house and ran away to another city.
I was left alone at grandmother's house.
I might cry hard, but slowly I felt grandmother as my mother, and loved her.
But, when I was 7 years old, the grandmother disppeared. She concieved me "Let's go to play with your brothers at your parent's house in Osaka." And she disappred while I payed with my brothers. I was left alone at my parent's house. But I could not feel the real mother as my mother any more.
The dupulication of the disapperance of "mothers" made me as "me" who knew that the most important person must disappear someday.

Since then, the disappearance became the issue not good at resonating most to me.
In any case, how can I resonate well, which one may disappear. A strong stereotype that all women disappear someday was imprinted on me.
My self-history as a failure of love began with that.

Meanwhile I also began to disappear.
People learn how to treat themselves based on how they were treated from the world.
And I will acquire the technique to treat the world back.
I learned how to dieradicate several times.

The first technique is
"Floor face".
When I was young, one of my friend said.
"Lee, sometimes your face loses any expression as if you are not here. Do you know by yourself?"
Not only when talking with friends but also when walking down the street,
sometimes my heart seems to have been playing out in a different world, leaving a face that was inexpressible "suffocate" in this world.
This experience of young age, later led to the discovery of subbody mode.

The second technique of disappearance was
to disappear by existence.
From various relationships, I often disappeared separating from the relationship.
I disappeared from the relationship with friends who were continued since I was young, disappeared from my office,
I disappeared from the group of triathlon who continued for ten years, disappeared from the family who continued for twenty years, I disappeared from the relationship with dancing friends I met in Kyoto.
One day suddenly disappeared from relationship without saying anything, I disappeared from Japan,
and danced in other countries of the world and moved to Himalayas.

The third technique of disappearance is
<De-self>.
I started to work in a midwife at a resonance cram school.
It is a work to help the birth of subbody =cobody from the darkness of the body of the students coming from the world.
However, when a subbody is born and grows to a certain extent, the day will come when I become a disturbing person myself as a midwife role.
Among the experiences of the past ten years, usually that moment came around the Butoh festival at the end of the year.
At that moment I usually do the <De-self>, stop the midwife role and disappear.
Strong conflict of Life and death is repeated among the students who faced the Abyss.
All relationships are resonance, so while I am resonating with the success or failure of the creation of a number of subbodies, I became a non-existence like <Bardo> in Tibetan Buddhism that comes and goes between life and death.

From eaely Spring of this year, the creativity of the students exploded at unusual pace, and in the middle of April, a memorable <Bardo> began.
Until now, I did not know what this was and I was also calling it "the devil of the world channel".
As creativity deepens, everyone approaches a non-dual Abyss, nightmares and forgotten traumas become a storm of emotions, and strange changes in physical and mental conditions.
Midwife accepts all the abnormalities of the co-researchers.
The turbulent flow of people's Qualia is spilling over as a spur of my own unexpected trauma.

A strange thing has already happened since last week.
This year is much faster than usual,
From last week I quit the role of manager of the annual performance of the weekend. Fortunately, we have been training of
mutual midwife. It is an experiment that the co-researchers mutually support each other's birth of subbody=cordudy.
Everyone is filled with own storms of creativity that spouts out of the darkness of their body.
Besides that, we must be involved in it for other people at the same time this year.
It is hard, but exceeding this difficulty is a passage to the future relationship, wearing the
<Future eye> a new transparent distant eyes to see oneself from the future.
I hope we can spend a month and a half without a falling person.

I have been tied up to the place where there is no way to solve the problems besides dancing any longer.
It may be the year to get off the midwife and to live again as a dancer.

Since March, we have repeatedly adjusted the 3D conditioning of spinal cord several times, finally, based on that, an original Weakened body was born from a co-researcher.
Watch carefully Lila's body playing the role of waitress at the "Strange Cafe" in the poolside, was trying to invent a body whose all joints are shifted in a random direction.
It is still rough, but if she continue to polish this, it must grow into her
Original Weakened body.
To support each other that each one invent own original butoh body is the aim of the co-midwiving.

Hopefully all the co-reseachers will dig a darkness of the body and invent each own unique butoh body, and conditioning for it. We share each one's own conditioning for original movement and body. This is the process to create each own Original Weakened body.

We got most rich Qualia from the Proto Dream that each life created. They are the gift from Life and the sourse of creation.
Now it's the time to create with integrating those sources and <Transparent Dreaming> and the
<Reduction by X and regeneration> technique.
We can reduce any element from those sources, and regenerate it. Hijikata showed the sample.

7. (Dream of Horse Meat)

I was sleeping naked, and dreamt of horsemeat

        Where did the whereabouts go?

        Mad King was put in the box

        The whereabouts of the box is connected to a fine dismantling

        Dance of hair

        Ship

        Reduction by X and regeneration

About the nest of eyes

        Bug

        Rakan

        Bear

        Tiger

        Dragon Fly

        Mustache that dances a waltz of bug, or Waltzing Mustache

        Cat

        Gunya-gunya cat

        Gunya-gunya whereabouts

        All of these compose the parts of a ship

       

        A bird with long nose hair and a bird which became a box

        The ship has taken these forms

        Or it could be seen as a dismantled ship

        I see far away leaves and nearby greens and I fly

        This is what I smelt at the “Can Factory”

 

All Qualia are transformed with modifing the size, density, speed, the number of dimension and so on, as the follwing;

Dream of Horse meat - Whereabout - Boxed King - fine dismantling - Dance of hair - Ship

To realize these transformation (of size, density, speed, and so on) is the <Reduction by X and regeneration> technique with using the real Qualia of Proto dream.

Practice it with using physical body movements, try all variations, remember the <Qualia cloud> which you collect from March for several weeks, and mix them with the Qualia of your Proto Dream.

While moving, catch the moment that a physical movement and your own Qualia become ONE transparently! It is your dance!
